The Networked-Cognitive Cooperative Institute (NC2I) is a metascience experiment in finding new ways (or institutional designs) to cooperatively conduct knowledge-oriented work (research, education, translation/innovation, curation/synthesis, public engagement, etc.).

The NC2I builds upon the institutional forms of an independent scholar institute, cooperative, and tech nonprofit, and is inspired by other initiatives for new kinds of research organizations, such as Focused Research Organizations and Private ARPA. 

Questions and Motivations

1. How to blend different organizational structures (e.g., a community-market like Kaggle) and types (e.g., academy, library, lab) for knowledge-oriented activities and innovations?

2. How can metascience help in developing the social and technical sides for running an institute?

3. How to develop an augmented intelligence institute (or a tools for thought (TfT) powered institute)?
